Singapore seeks proposal for 100 MW of floating PV

Singapore's Economic Development Board (EDB) has issued a request for information to explore the feasibility of a 100 MW floating solar project.

The initial location suggested is the Kranji reservoir, said the EDB in a statement. The public body said it believes a small portion of the reservoir’s surface could host up to 100 MW of floating PV.

An information session for interested parties will be held on Friday, November 30, and developers must submit their proposals by February 15.

The EDB will conduct exploratory and evaluation stages for the project. The initial assessment will be based primarily on the price offered for the electricity generated by the floating array.

City state is a floating solar pioneer

A successful developer would sign a memorandum of understanding with the EDB at the end of the exploratory stage, with a PPA awarded at the final stage. The Kranji reservoir is managed by Singapore’s Public Utilities Board (PUB).

Singapore – a leading market for floating PV – issued its first tenders for the technology in April, when the PUB selected companies to conduct engineering studies for the deployment of 2.5 MW of floating PV at two of its reservoirs.

Through the exercise, the agency tendered construction of a 1.5 MW array at the Bedok reservoir, in eastern Singapore, to the north of Bedok New Town; and a 1 MW plant at the Lower Seletar reservoir in the northeast of the city state, east of Yishun New Town.

The Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore has been researching the potential of floating solar for years.
