Halocell, Australian researchers to scale lead-free solar tech

Australian perovskite cell producer Halocell Energy is partnering with University of Queensland researchers to accelerate the commercial production of lead-free solar panels based on record-breaking tin-halide PV cell technology.

Tandem cell or tandem module?

At Intersolar Europe in Munich, several companies presented their concepts for high-performance perovskite tandem photovoltaics. The first modules are expected to be available in the second half of the year. The different approaches by manufacturers are evident.

Gstar launches solar cell, module production in the Philippines

Gstar has completed the first phase of its factory in the Philippines, set to produce 1 GW of solar modules and 1.5 GW of solar cells. The Singapore-based solar manufacturer says a planned second phase will take its solar module nameplate capacity to 2 GW.

Brazilian government to propose full opening of energy market by 2028 and end of discounts for renewables

The proposed reform of the electricity sector includes the creation of the supplier of last resort, possible flexibility for consumers without contracts and the end of TUST and TUSD discounts for renewable power plants. The plan also imposes a minimum load of 30 MW for self-production by equalization and determines changes in the cost sharing of the sector.

Romania launches second renewables auction

Romania has opened its second renewables auction under a contracts-for-difference (CfD) scheme, offering 3.47 GW of capacity, including 1.47 GW of solar. The auction sets a maximum strike price of €73 ($81.81)/MWh for solar energy.

pv magazine Homeowner Guide: Top tips and red flags to home solar

pv magazine is compiling a guide to home solar installations, aimed at those who are interested in installing but are new to the market and want to make an informed decision. We have spoken to associations, installers and industry specialists in major solar markets across the globe to compile best practice guidance and advice that aims to be applicable to home solar installations anywhere in the world. The first part of the series aims to help homeowners looking to embrace PV identify the best installers on the market.

Ciel & Terre completes 120 MWp floating solar array with new anchoring tech

Ciel & Terre has completed a 120 MWp floating solar project in India, introducing several company firsts in engineering and design, including rock bolt anchoring and a reinforced fiberglass inverter barge. The system also marks the French PV specialist’s first use of spin welding in its floating platform assembly.

Net electricity prices for end customers fall below zero for first time in Germany

As PV and wind power plants caused a significant oversupply on May 11, the electricity price fell to a low of minus €250 per megawatt-hour. Charging PV storage systems or electric cars during these hours thus generated income for customers with dynamic electricity tariffs between 12 pm and 3 pm.

Proposed US rule changes could alter solar supply chains

Proposed changes to US Foreign Entities of Concern rules could disqualify projects from tax credits if they fail to meet new eligibility standards.

The next evolution in solar degradation, unavailability

US-based software provider Solesca presents new ways of handling PV system unavailability and solar module degradation. Engineers have a key role to play in this evolution, ensuring more accurate and reliable energy predictions for solar projects.
