Northern Ireland-based renewable energy group SALIIS Renewables has tapped German mounting systems specialist AmbiVolt Energietechnik for one of the largest rooftop PV arrays under construction in the country.
Canadian aerospace and transportation giant Bombardier is building the 3.6 MW installation at its wing-assembly plant in Belfast. The system, covering 44,000 square meters, will generate approximately 2,900 megawatt hours of electricity a year. Bombardier was granted planning permission for the solar project last year.
As the general contractor on the solar project, SALIIS chose AmbiVolt for its mounting systems and customized solutions. Some 14,000 panels are being installed for the project, which is set to be commissioned by the end of March after a construction period of seven weeks.
AmbiVolt said the mounting structure was specifically designed to withstand the high wind loads in the coastal region. The company, headquartered in the Bavarian town of Gangkofen, manufactures mounting systems for flat and pitched roofs.
