Brookfield, Solarvest partner on 1.5 GW of solar-plus-storage in Malaysia

The two parties have signed a joint investment framework agreement to develop, construct and operate 1.5 GW worth of solar-plus-storage projects in Malaysia over the next three to five years.

Seven projects pulled from EU hydrogen fund

The projects, equivalent to 1.88 GW of electrolyzer capacity, were withdrawn after choosing not to continue with the agreement procedure or for being unable to provide a signed completion guarantee. As a result, ten hydrogen projects representing 774 MW in capacity from the reserve list have been invited to prepare grant agreements.

Nigeria to establish 1 GW solar panel factory

Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency, Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria and Dutch solar manufacturer Solarge BV are teaming up via a special purpose vehicle to establish and operate a 1 GW solar panel manufacturing facility.

Tiny pinholes can lead to device failure in perovskite solar cells

Researchers in the United States have found microscopic pinholes in perovskites are responsible for the breakdown of such solar cells when under reverse bias conditions. They say the findings should push scientists and engineers to prioritize the production of pinhole-free films to make perovskites more robust and stable.

Electricity prices increase across major European markets

AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s latest analysis finds a rise in gas and CO2 emission prices and increase in electricity demand had an upward influence on electricity prices across most major European markets last week. Meanwhile, Portugal and Spain set new records for solar produced during a day in September.

Solar Stewardship Initiative sets new targets, reporting requirements

The Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) says all solar modules bound for the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom must come from manufacturing sites certified for both environmental, social and governance standards and supply chain traceability by early 2028.

Scientists boost organic solar cell efficiency using polymer zwitterions

A research team based in China and the United States has developed electroactive polymer zwitterions to modify zinc oxide interlayers in organic solar cells. Their work was found to passivate defects in organic solar cells, helping to improve device performance and stability.

South Africa deploys 928 MW of solar in Q1

South Africa’s cumulative solar capacity surpassed 9.4 GW by mid-2025, according to figures from the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA). The country also has a solar project pipeline in excess of 10 GW.

Czech electricity distributor connects 253 MW of solar in H1

Czechia’s largest electricity distributor, ČEZ Distribuce, says 9,084 solar power plants were connected across its network during the first half of the year, 86% of which were equipped with an energy storage system.
