An environmental impact assessment has been submitted by the Santiago-based company for its planned 90 MW Andean Solar Park. Set to be located in the Copiapo Province, in the town of Copiapo, construction is expected to begin in September 2016.
It will require an investment of $158 million and will feed energy into Chiles Central Interconnected System (SIC). Set to be built across 204.6 acres, the project will comprise 316,160 PV panels, when complete.
Although the country still has a comparatively negligible installed solar PV capacity around 483 MW SIC estimates that 1.8 GW will come online this year. A number of large-scale plans have been announced in recent months by companies including: Enel Green Power with its 97 MW Carrera Pinto, 60 MW Lalackama and 40 MW Chañares projects; SunPower and Total's 70 MW PV Salvador project; SunEdison's 100 MW Amanecer Solar CAP; and Abengoa's 100 MW PV plant, which will be part of the 210 MW Atacama 1 solar complex.
