The German thin film solar PV manufacturer has said it will restart production at its CIGS facility in South Korea. Annual production, scheduled for H1 2019, will be 100 MW.

REC Silicon hit by falling demand in Q2
Norway headquartered polysilicon producer, REC Silicon posted a loss of US$9.6 million for the second quarter of 2018, amid reduced production and increasing inventory. The company’s Solar Materials segment was responsible for much of these losses, with decreased demand and ongoing trade wars cited as the cause.

India: 25% safeguard duty will threaten ongoing solar PV projects
The two-year period of the recommended safeguard duty is very short, discouraging any investment in setting up new solar manufacturing capacity, say analysts and companies pv magazine spoke to. At the same time, for solar project developers, the duty will impact tariffs to the tune of 12-15%, posing an immediate threat to viability of projects under execution, they add.
Eelpower announces £500 million,1 GW storage plan for the UK
Eelpower Limited has acquired a 20 MW battery storage scheme from Anesco in the U.K. Overall, it plans to invest £500 million in delivering 1 GW of storage capacity by 2022.
Heraeus Photovoltaics president steps down
Andreas Liebheit, President of Heraeus Photovoltaics, has stepped down for personal reasons. He has been temporarily replaced by Raymund Chua, Head of HPT in Singapore and Head of Heraeus’ Asia-Pacific Regional Center.
