Suntech to install 100 MW PV in Pakistan
07. June 2012 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky BeetzSuntech has unveiled its plans to install 100 megawatts (MW) worth of photovoltaics in Pakistan.
Chairman and founder of the Chinese photovoltaic module manufacturer, Zhengrong Shi met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday, June 6. Under the plans, Suntech will install five plants worth 20 MW each, over a number of phases.
According to the Pakistan Daily Times, Shi reportedly said he would visit the areas of the country, which were "most suitable" for the projects.
While Suntech could not immediately divulge any more concrete details, spokesman, Björn Emde told pv magazine, "The industry's success in getting down the cost of solar has given hope to many. We think that this is a great sign and we are happy to be involved in bringing clean and dependable solar energy to many families and small businesses in remote areas of Pakistan."
On June 4, Conergy and Ensunt announced their plans to install a 50 MW photovoltaic project in Pakistan for the DACC Power Generation Company Limited (DPGCL). The plant will be built in in Bahawalpur, in the Cholistan region.
