The project, commissioned by Reliance Power, a Reliance ADA Group company, was completed in just five months and covers 350 acres (approximately 1.4 square kilometers). 500,000 First Solar thin film modules have been installed in the plant, near the village of Dhursar in Jaisalmer in northwestern India.
It is expected to generate more than 60 million kilowatt hours of electricity, making it one of the largest photovoltaic power plants in India in terms of energy generation. The Dhursar project is first of several Reliance projects that are to be built with First Solar modules as part of a 100 MW module order placed last year.
More than 70,000 average Indian homes will be powered by the annual electricity generation from the development. Meanwhile, nearly 60,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be saved per year.
