The German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar), organizers of Intersolar Europe, Solar Promotion GmbH, Pforzheim, and Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG (FWTM) had a tough call with more than 100 companies applying for the innovation prize this year. However in the end the list was narrowed down to the best 30 across 3 categories: Photovoltaics, Solar Projects in Europe and Solar Thermal Technologies.
With the drastic changes that have been made to FITs all over Europe in the last years, the organizers of the event state that many entries involve energy storage solutions with a variety of technical concepts and storage capacities, ranging from inexpensive lead-acid gel batteries to products incorporating modern lithium-ion technology and from power storage systems for domestic installations to commercial battery systems as large as a shipping container.
Other entries emphasize the importance of control and regulation engineering that seeks to ensure that the next generation of inverters achieve even better rates of efficiency. This is turn optimizes on-site consumption. Plant optimization was another focus point amongst the entries. Cost-savings and ease of installation are important to accelerate and expand the implementation of solar power. And cost-effective substructures for PV mounting is thus one aspect that cannot be overlooked.
The debut
For the first time, exhibitors were invited to make submissions in the category of Solar Projects in Europe. This category honors projects under the three categories Photovoltaics and Energy Storage, PV Applications (Industrial and Commercial Use) and Solar Thermal Applications that have set a particularly inspiring example in driving forward the energy transition. The solar projects category has been previously been presented at the Intersolar North America and Intersolar India, but makes its debut in Europe this year.
