Skytron, the Berlin-based PV plant management systems and data monitoring technology firm, has been selected to provide its services to the 57.6 MWp Oriana solar PV plant in Puerto Rico.
Built by Greece's METKA-EGN and owned and operated by Sonnedix, the Oriana plant was commissioned in September this year and produces enough clean energy to meet the annual power needs of 12,000 households.
For Skytron, which was recently sold by First Solar to Liberta Partners, the Oriana plant represents an ambitious step towards clean energy for the Caribbean, and will utilize a range of the company’s different technologies and software platforms.
Skytron will re-engineer its skyCOMM digital signal converter for the Oriana plant, which integrates the solar inverters with solar irradiation measurements and temperature sensors to the plant network. This will enable the firm to collect highly granular performance data in one-second values via a single data concentrator. This allows the plant’s operators to react quickly if any errors or failures are detected.
The Oriana plant also has a 10 MW battery installed, so Skytron will also employ its PVGuard at the site, which monitors all internal and external components locally, and can do so while offline via skyserv Local, which is a data server hardware platform.
Additional kit onsite includes the Skytron skyCONNi-Sun universal weather unit and skylog data logger system, which have been customized to log and store all of the data transmitted by Oriana’s inverters, combiner boxes and field sensor equipment.
"Importantly for Sonnedix, Skytron has developed necessary solutions to collect one-second values and to integrate external devices such as combiner boxes, battery chargers and power plant controllers into one single supervision platform," said Sonnedix EVP and global head of engineering and construction Joern Hackbarth.
Skytron’s head of sales Stephan Raulin added: "Due to the size and the hybrid nature of the plant, we have deployed the entire range of our high-quality monitoring and supervision technology."
