German PV equipment supplier Singulus Technologies AG has entered into an agreement to establish a joint venture with the two Chinese solar companies Golden Concord Holdings Limited (GCL) and China Intellectual Electric Power Technology Co., Ltd. (CIE). This was announced by the German company on Friday. GCL is the parent company of the world's largest polysilicon manufacturer CGL-Poly, while CIE is focused on the development of highly efficient heterojunction solar cells. The market for these high-performance cells is expected to reach more than 20 gigawatts per year.
According to Singulus, the joint venture aims at the development, optimization, construction and distribution of complete production lines for the production of highly efficient solar cells based on heterojunction technology. CIE and GCL will continue to develop the process technology in the joint venture in order to produce the high-efficiency solar cells. Singulus will assume a minority interest in the new company based in China and will be responsible for its expertise in mechanical engineering.
