PV-powered thermoelectric cooling for air conditioning in buildings

Scientists have proposed a way to combine thermoelectric modules (TEMs) with rooftop PV to support heating, ventilation and air conditioning in buildings. They designed a wall-integrated TEM to heat and cool adjacent rooms.

New polymer-based battery electrodes with high stability

UK researchers have developed organic electrode materials to integrate redox-active organic molecules into long-chain polymers. The new electrodes exhibit better cycling performance in lithium-ion batteries, with no apparent capacity decay over more than a thousand charge-discharge cycles.

Australian miner signs baseload PPA contract with Neoen for 24/7 renewables

BHP has signed a 70 MW baseload renewable energy contract with Neoen to meet 50% of the energy demand of its Olympic Dam mining operations in South Australia.

Air-source heat pump for harsh, cold climates

Carrier will soon begin field tests for a prototype air-source heat pump for cold climates. It is designed to provide high-efficiency heating performance in harsh climates with temperatures equal or below negative 29 degrees Celsius, while being grid-interactive. The US-based heating tech specialist expects to commercialize the solution by 2024.

ADB, EDC launch 2 GW solar program in Cambodia

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Électricité du Cambodge (EDC) have signed an agreement to develop 2 GW of solar in the Southeast Asian country. EDC will conduct a nationwide study to identify potential solar and storage projects for implementation up to 2030.

The Hydrogen Stream: Researchers identify light-triggered coupled oxygen evolution mechanism

Researchers in Singapore have developed a new light-triggered coupled oxygen evolution mechanism that builds on past oxygen evolution research. Oman, meanwhile, has announced a new hydrogen strategy.

Uninterrupted PV generation without storage

An Israeli scientist has proposed a way to achieve uninterrupted PV power on the moon without using energy storage. The proposal involves the installation of PV panels around a 360-degree latitudinal ring close to one of the moon’s poles. There would be no inter-array shading, and static vertical PV arrays and arrays mounted on single-axis vertical trackers could be viable mounting structures.

6

Novel redox flow battery paves way for low-cost storage

US researchers have facilitated the decoupling of power from energy design by incorporating a conducting carbon slurry in the negative electrolyte of an all-iron flow battery. In a new study, they describe the design considerations for slurry iron redox flow battery scalability.
