India: SECI issues 650 MW tender for solar in Andhra Pradesh

As part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) of India, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued a tender for 650 MW of solar PV capacity in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

This extra PV capacity is part of the JNNSM’s phase II, batch IV tranche, and will comprise 500 MW of normal grid-connected solar capacity and 150 MW issued under India’s stringent Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) rules, which are meant to ensure that a fair proportion of India’s solar growth comes via locally-produced solar components.

Further specifics of the tender – issued as a request for selection (RfS) – are not yet forthcoming, but SECI did reveal that the 650 MW capacity will be for the Kadapa Solar Park in the state of Andhra Pradesh, which currently boasts the fourth-largest amount of cumulative PV capacity nationwide, with around 900 MW installed.

Under the JNNSM, phase II batch IV has a total capacity of 5 GW of grid-connected solar, of which around 1.6 GW have already been tendered prior to this latest announcement by SECI.
