Global PV company Trina Solar has been selected to supply 1 MW of modules for Jordan's largest solar power project.
Owned by the Ma'an Development Company (MDC), the project will generate more than 2,000 MWh of solar energy a year, with Trina Solar's 4,032 Trina Honey modules powering the entire plant, which will be jointly constructed by local EPC specialist Mustakbal Clean Tech and Germa-based Phoenix Solar.
Once completed in the second quarter of 2014, the plant will generate enough clean energy to mitigate some 24,000 metric tons of CO2 per year. Trina Solars modules each with a 10-year workmanship warranty and a 25-year linear power output warranty will be shipped to Jordan before the end of the year.
"This new collaboration with Phoenix Solar and Mustakbal recognizes once again Trina Solars wide experience as a solar leader and the reliability of our products and services," said Trina Solar CEO and Chairman, Jifan Gao. "We have established a strong, experienced local team in the Middle East, who work closely with our partners in the region, providing ongoing technical and product support on-the-ground. We estimate that Trina Solar currently enjoys 50% of the solar market in Jordan, and we expect to continue to grow our market presence as we move into 2014."
Jordans current PV capacity plans stand at 600 MW by 2020 which, for a country that currently imports 96% of its energy needs, represents an ambitious but achievable target that could seriously transform its domestic energy outlook.
According to a USAID report, the country will boast one of the highest engineers per capita ratios in the world at one engineer per 83 inhabitants by 2020 and one of the globes highest insolation rates.
