SJVN Green Energy Ltd. (SGEL) plans to develop a 2 MW floating solar pilot project with Ocean Sun’s membrane-based floater technology.

Floating solar specialists Ocean Sun and Inseanergy have been involved in a patent dispute over Ocean Sun’s floating solar structure since August 2022. The companies have now announced a settlement, with a “positive result” for both parties.

It has been another bumper year when it comes to innovative projects and applications in the solar and energy storage sector. But within that larger trend of innovation are a number of other trends to keep an eye out for.

State Power Investment Corp. (SPIC) has started operating the world’s first offshore floating solar plant integrated with an offshore wind turbine, at a pilot site off the coast of China’s Shandong province. It features floating PV tech from Norway’s Ocean Sun.

Norway’s Ocean Sun has agreed to provide its technologies for utility-scale floating PV projects that Greek developer MP Quantum Group wants to build on lakes, reservoirs and sheltered coastal inlets. They expect to secure permits for the first demonstrator by the end of this year.

The company aims to raise NOK100 million by going public. It will use the funds to expand its overseas operation and reinforce engineering resources in Norway.

Floating PV specialist Ocean Sun and South Korean energy company EN Technologies have signed an agreement to develop the pilot projects of the 2.1 GW floating solar site planned near the Saemangeum tidal flat, on the coast of the Yellow Sea.

The CEO of Norwegian floating solar company Ocean Sun has spoken to pv magazine about his company’s innovative design for floating PV projects in near-shore locations and semi-sheltered waters. A pilot project built in the Philippines last year, said Børge Bjørneklett, is providing better-than-expected power output.
