Besides the 16 vacuum coating machines that will be delivered to M-Cells, the contract between the two companies additionally comprises of an option for the purchase of SINGULAR XP machines in the double-digit million range. The SINGULAR XP vacuum coating equipment is intended for the rear side passivation of crystalline PERC solar cells in the production of 500 MW highly efficient multi-cells. The first vacuum coating machines for the production of PERC cells are to be delivered to China in the first quarter of 2014.
German company Singulus Technologies also has plans for further technological cooperation for the manufacture of highly efficient crystalline silicon cells. The Chinese government has stipulated efficiency rates. The conversion efficiency of monosilicon cells is required to be higher than 20% and conversion efficiency of polysilicon cells is required to be higher than 18%, while conversion efficiency of thin film cells is required to be more than 12%.
Via the implementation of SINGULAR XP, M-Cells aims to boost its competitiveness in the solar industry and meet the 18% efficiency requirement for polycrystalline cells.
Both companies had already agreed to cooperate on the commercial production of crystalline solar cells earlier this year.
