A new residential battery inverter is set to hit the markets of Europe and Australia as SMA and LG Chem combine their award-winning technologies to create a new storage solution.
The SMA Sunny Boy Storage 2.5 battery inverter and LG Chems RESU 10H and 7H storage units both picked up accolades at the ees Award at this years Intersolar Europe, and now the two companies have collaborated on a home storage product that they claim will help deliver 80% electricity bill savings for an average household.
The solution will be first introduced into Europe and Australia, and will be available at 7kWh and 10kWh storage capacity. It can be retrofitted to existing residential PV systems, and low-voltage variants of the LG Chem RESU storage unit can also be selected should customers require such a solution.
An online portal developed by SMA, Sunny Places, comes as standard with the battery inverter, and enables users to transparently monitor the performance of their system and duly adjust their energy consumption habits to suit their budgets.
"PV power is less expensive than the electricity rate charged by regional utility companies in many European countries for private households," said SMA CEO Pierre-Pascal Urbon. "Private households want to leverage their investment in a PV system by investing in storage systems. The [ ] solution from SMA and LG Chem is tailored for use with existing and new residential PV systems."
The SMA chiefs comments were augmented by those of Sung Hoon Jang, who is SVP of LG Chem and head of ESS battery division. "The combination of LG Chems RESU 400V lineup storage integrated with Sunny Boy Storage will have a great impact in the European and Australian residential storage market," said Hoon Jang. "We expect this new technology to become a stepping stone that will enable more people to use renewable energy at home around the globe."
