Smart Solar has completed work on what is said to be the world’s largest thin film solar PV rooftop project.

Located at the Tosçelik ERW Pipe Production Facilities in the Osmaniye Organized Industrial Zone, the plant is expected to cover 30% of Tosçelik’s annual power requirements.

A total of 85,000 of First Solar’s thin film PV panels were delivered to the project by Zorlu Solar. No further details were released.

The two companies entered into a partnership last February under which the Turkey-based industrial conglomerate signed an agreement to supply the U.S. company’s thin film modules in 26 selected markets globally. It will also develop PV projects using First Solar’s panels.

Already, it has contracts to build two PV plants totaling 300 MW in Pakistan, and has signed a memorandum of understanding with Palestinian utility, JDECO for the construction of an unspecified number of solar plants in the Middle Eastern region.

Meanwhile, earlier today, pv magazine reported that Turkey’s solar industry has just come out of its best year so far, adding around 1.7 GW of new PV capacity in 2017.
