Australian start-up targets rooftop solar increase with new tech to manage grid stability in low voltage areas

Queensland company eleXsys Energy has secured more than AUD450,000 to help finance a trial of next-generation technology designed to manage grid stability in low voltage areas, potentially allowing for an increase in the amount of distributed energy resources, including rooftop solar, that can be connected to the grid.

Lithuania devotes €40 million for solar rebates in 2022

The Lithuanian government has decided to increase the 2022 budget for the solar rebates by €35 million after the initial phases of the program showed strong success among homeowners.

Solar for churches

Churches use energy mostly during the day, which makes them ideal buildings to deploy solar panels. Scientists in the United Kingdom have assessed the financial viability of a rooftop PV project for Bath Abbey and found that it could become profitable after 13 years.

Indian state of Maharashtra launches 865 MW tender for small solar parks

The tendered capacity is expected to provide day-time power to agricultural consumers. The selected projects will range in size from 2 to 10 MW and will be awarded a 25-year power purchase agreement.

‘The technology and the capital are available, but the market simply lacks execution capacity’

1Komma5° has acquired a majority stake in Swedish solar installation provider Cellsolar AB. This is the sixth acquisition of the recently founded Cleantech startup which wants to open the installation sector for the capital market in order to allow rapid growth.

Sun-tracking tessellated photovoltaic array for use in space-restricted areas

Created by scientists in Korea, the shape-transformable 3D PV system is claimed to be able to increase electricity yield by 60% over a day compared to a fixed flat panel due to the shorter shadow length and the bifacial effect obtained during shape transformation. The proposed system doesn’t need any machinery to follow the sun and its developers said it would be a perfect solution for both urban and rural environments with limited space.

Portugal installed 701 MW of solar in 2021

The country’s cumulative PV capacity reached 1.77 GW at the end of December.

France publishes first-quarter FITs for PV systems up to 500 kW

The feed-in tariff granted will still be reduced each quarter, in line with how much solar capacity was installed in the previous three-month period, but to a lower extent.

Chile’s first fast-charging station for EVs

The recharging station will operate 24 hours a day and in a flexible format, which will allow fleets of electric buses, last-mile distribution vehicles, trucks, taxis and private electric cars to be supplied through fast charging points.

The panel and the city

US researchers have investigated how rooftop PV systems may affect air and building temperature in urban environments and, conversely, how the urban heat island (UHI) effect may have a negative impact on PV system performance. Their work considered urban air temperature, urban air pollution, the partial shading of the PV system, soiling, building heating and cooling loads, and outdoor shade.
