Fox Energy will manufacture the modules in Juarez, Mexico. SunEdison solar module business unit's general manager Gokul Krishnan stated that Fox Energy will be producing the Silvantis family of modules for the company. This move is said to be part of SunEdison's global expansion goal. SunEdison had already interconnected over 989 MW of solar power and had a pipeline of 2.6 GW at the end of last year.
"Fox Energy's global footprint allows SunEdison to manufacture modules near our high growth end-markets which helps us keep costs down while meeting local content requirements," Krishnan added.
SunEdison also hopes to deliver modules to the market at lower levelized costs of energy (LCOE). According to the company, the new Silvantis F330 has lower balance of systems costs and having attained the 1000 UL rating, can allow more modules to be wired together in a string thus saving inverter costs.
The Borderplex Alliance, a bi-national economic alliance, helped bring the two companies together. "We take pride in the fact that these two globally-recognized companies have chosen our region to launch this new venture. This announcement is foundational; it may very well prove to be the tipping point to our regional goal of becoming the solar energy development capital of North America," said Rolando Pablos, Chief Executive Officer of The Borderplex Alliance.
SunEdison also managed to recently clinch a US$35 million loan for the construction of a 16 MW PV park in Arizona.
