An international joint venture (JV) between Germany’s juwi group and Shizen Energy Inc. is to begin construction of a 25 MW solar PV plant in the north of Japan.

juwi Shizen Energy Inc. will build the Hirono Plant for Spain’s Gestamp Group, which – alongside Deutsche Bank – will provide non-recourse financing for the project. The solar plant will be located in the Kunohe district of Iwate Prefecture in the north of Japan, with grid connection slated for spring 2016.

"Japan’s energy market offers great potential for renewables," said juwi Shizen Energy representative director Masaya Hasegawa. "Solar energy will play a significant role in the country’s future energy supply and we continue to contribute to grow this sustainable national resource."

The EPC has completed 25 solar PV plants in Japan since 2013, and is planning on connecting that same number over the course of 2015. "Several utility-scale projects are under construction right now and our execution expertise gives us the capacity to execute additional projects," added juwi Shizen Energy MD Juan Mas Valor.

Across the Asia Pacific region, juwi Shizen Energy has realized more than 380 MW of solar PV projects, while Gestamp Group has commissioned in excess of 500 MW of solar globally.

Internationally, juwi group has 1.4 GW of solar capacity under its belt, delivering enough solar energy annually to power 1.5 million German households.
