All low-cost PV monitoring systems at a glance

A group of scientists in China conducted a comprehensive review of existing low-cost photovoltaic monitoring approaches. They found that only 11 out of 88 studies related to PV monitoring incorporate machine learning. The researchers urge the scientific community to place greater emphasis on lightweight machine learning solutions and smartphone-based integration.

New Python-based tool optimizes PV plant deployment on hilly terrain

Researchers in India have developed a novel layout design tool to identify the optimal locations for solar panel installation on undulating terrain. The tool consists of two components: a filtering module that excludes unsuitable land patches, and an algorithm that determines the optimal distribution of panels across the remaining usable area. The approach was demonstrated on a test site in India.

Vilion releases new C&I battery energy storage system

The Chinese firm says its new EnerCube product is designed for commercial and industrial applications. It has a capacity of 2,250 kWh.

Fluence to supply Leag’s 4 GWh battery project, Europe’s largest, in Germany

Fluence Energy says it will supply a 1 GW/4 GWh battery energy storage system for German power producer Leag, marking both Europe’s largest such project and the company’s biggest single installation to date using its Smartstack platform.

‘We need male allies who understand that inclusion benefits everyone’

This week Women in Solar+ Europe gives voice to Rosilena Lindo, Global energy and climate advisor and former Secretary of Energy in Panama. She says that gender equality is not a women’s issue, but rather a global development imperative. “The gender and energy dialogue has evolved. Women are not victims, they are agents of change,” she states.

A new blueprint for the power system from GoodWe

To support changes in the solar industry driven by such trends as storage deployment and AI, GoodWe founder Daniel Huang says the company is marking its 15th anniversary by leading the smart energy integration of generation-grid-load-storage-intelligence.

Insurers warn of supply chain strain, tighter OEM warranties in battery sector

Insurers say the maturing battery energy storage system (BESS) market is improving risk data and underwriting confidence, but rising fire-related costs, stretched supply chains, and reduced manufacturer warranties are creating new financial pressures.

Protecting the grid from extreme weather

IEC Standards help to make the grid more resilient as the impact of climate change intensifies.

Swiss researchers develop snow model to optimize PV system design in alpine regions

The researchers have used computational fluid dynamics-based modelling of snow patterns in an effort to establish best practices to mitigate snow accumulation in alpine PV plants.

From scale to strength: How India’s solar industry is forced to become a global premium player

EUPD Research explores India’s rapid solar manufacturing expansion, its growing export potential, competitiveness relative to China, and the evolving trade and sustainability dynamics shaping global PV markets.
