PV: Spain approves 116 MW for Q1 2011

With 116 megawatts (MW) approved for the first quarter of this year, the new authorisations are at a similar level to tenders in the preceding quarters.

Broken down, rooftop installations up to 20 kilowatts (kW) received approvals for a total capacity of 7.4 MW, bigger rooftop systems for 67.2 MW and ground-mounted installations for 41.6 MW.

The quarterly tenders are part of the Spanish scheme to divide the annual cap of around 450 MW. As a result of the limitations, requests for more than three gigawatts were turned down in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the tariff reductions decided by the government last year will come into effect in the second quarter of 2011. As such, the remuneration will decline by eight percent to 28.88 euro cents for smaller rooftop installations, by 27 percent to 20.37 euro cents for bigger rooftop systems and by 46.5 percent to 13.46 euro cents for ground-mounted PV.

The timeframe to apply for the new licenses ends on April the 6.
