The company says it will manufacture 200 megawatts (MW) worth of its fifth generation CPV modules at the 176,000 square foot facility. However, this capacity can be ramped up to 400 MW in the future. Before production can begin, the facility must be upgraded in early 2012. M+W Group has been chosen to carry out the work.
Soitec is scheduled to begin producing modules by the fourth quarter of 2012, at an initial capacity of 100 MW.
Overall, the company has a 300 MW CPV project pipeline in the southwest of the U.S. This includes power purchase agreements with San Diego Gas & Electric worth 155 MW.
In a statement, it added, "Situated inside the San Diego factory will be the joint venture Reflexite Soitec Optical Technology LLC, previously announced last month. This new company will operate its own 100-person manufacturing operation within the facility developing and manufacturing leading-edge silicone-on-glass (SOG) Fresnel lens plates used in Soitecs CPV modules."
