Solar franchising experts Solar Universe has this week announced the acquisition of direct sales pioneer GEN110 in a move the company believes will augment its ability to reach a wider range of customers.

Last month, Solar Universe introduced an innovative online design center, which simplifies the solar sales experience for the customer, and also added Long Island to their list of franchises. The Livermore-based company’s approach of online selling and smart in-home sales is intended to work in tandem to create a competitive cost advantage.

The company’s acquisition of GEN110 will be a "terrific asset to our core business," said Solar Universe’s CEO and founder, Joe Bono. "Our business has always been based on arming our franchises with the best customer acquisition tools. The addition of GEN110 allows us to develop new offices with great speed and lower cost than ever before."

GEN110 was originally founded in 2009 in San Fancisco as Solmentum. Its name change in January 2012 refers to the 110-volt electrical wiring outlets commonly found in American homes, and is a metaphor for generating clean power. ??"Our vision is that one day every home will produce on-site electricity, so combining our sales expertise with the installation know-how of Solar Universe is a very exciting prospect," said Jason Brown, co-founder and CEO of GEN110. "We’re looking forward to working with Solar Universe and providing homeowners with a more seamless path to getting cleaner and cheaper electricity."
