Xinyu Xinwei New Energy announces 50 MW solar projects in Inner Mongolia

Xinyu Xinwei New Energy, a subsidiary of vertically integrated solar PV developer SPI Solar, has revealed plans to engineer, procure and construct (EPC) two large-scales solar PV projects totaling a combined 50 MW in China's Inner Mongolia region.

Xinyu has a large and growing PV portfolio in China, but these new projects represent the company's first foray into Inner Mongolia – a remote region that is beginning to diversify its energy mix with the addition of a number of large-scale solar PV arrays.

The first project, a 20 MW installation in Wulaichabu City, Inner Mongolia, is scheduled to begin this month, and completion and grid connection is expected during the fourth quarter of the year.

The second project follows hot on its heels. Larger, at 30 MW, this installation will be located in Alxa League, and forms part of an agreement with Alxa League ZhiWei PV Power Co. Construction is also scheduled to begin this month, with a completion date set for March 2015.

"These agreements mark a new geographic expansion of SPI Solar's presence in the rapidly growing market for solar across China," said SPI chairman Xiaofeng Peng. "To date, we have now initiated projects in various regions of China, underscoring our ability to execute our global strategy while also expanding our market presence within China."

The importance of the Chinese market to SPI Solar was underlined earlier in the summer following the announcement of a 30 MW PV project in China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Beyond China, SPI Solar has been busy expanding its geographic reach, building up a sizeable PV portfolio in Greece, acquiring a pipeline of more than 30 MW in the U.K., and raising more than $43 million via private placements.
