Amtech has announced that it has received an equipment order from an unnamed client in China, through its Netherlands based solar subsidiary Tempress Systems.
The order marks the second phase of a 1 GW project, and is a follow on from a previous order received in January. Amtech states that the new order is of a similar size to the one received for the initial phase of the project, and that it is expected to ship within the next 12 months.
“With recent declines in the cost of n-type wafers and the market demand for higher efficiency and lower cost per watt, we are seeing increased adoption of bifacial technologies,” says Amtech CEO and president Fokko Pentinga. “We believe that Amtech has the right mix of n-type technologies and high throughput tools to capitalize on the growing demand, and that n-type bifacial cell technologies have the best have the best roadmap to higher efficiency.”
Amtech saw a strong start to 2017, receiving several large equipment orders. As of April 25th 2017, the company’s backlog stands at approximately $125 million, compared to $52 million on December 31st 2016.
Tempress systems recently announced that Europe’s largest bifacial PV installation was under construction at its headquarters in the Netherlands, a project it plans on using to showcase the benefits of bifacial module technology.
