Niger seeking consultants for 60 MW solar-plus-storage project

Niger Electricity Co. has asked consultants to submit expressions of interest for feasibility, environmental, and social impact studies for a 60 MW solar-plus-storage project in western Niger. The deadline is Dec. 2.

London Stadium to deploy rooftop solar array

Cleantech specialist Ameresco is installing a 6,500 sqm array of ultra-thin solar panels on the London Stadium. Once complete, the installation will generate 0.85 million kWh of electricity per year – enough to power all of the stadium’s sporting and music events.

Alight, 3Flash to build 120 MW solar park in Finland

Alight and 3Flash have signed a joint development agreement for a 120 MW solar project in southeastern Finland. Work is expected to begin early next year, with commissioning scheduled for 2027.

Turkey targets 22.6 GW of solar by end of 2025

The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources’ 2025 budget proposal sets a target of 22.6 GW of installed solar by the end of next year, up from around 18.8 GW this year. The ministry also plans to increase the share of domestic resources in electricity production, while reducing the share of natural gases.

Philippines may terminate 50-plus solar projects for missing deadlines

The Philippines’ Department of Energy says that at least 105 renewable energy projects, including 53 solar projects, face termination for failing to comply with timelines.

Tajikistan accepting bids to develop 200 MW of solar

Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources is conducting a tender for the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of a 200 MW solar plant in western Tajikistan. The application deadline is Nov. 12, 2024.

The Institute for Essential Services Reform says Indonesia’s solar industry has faced a downturn over the past two years, but policy reforms should accelerate solar deployment in the coming years. The think tank’s latest report states that 16.92 GW of projects are currently in the pipeline across the country.

BASF receives funding for world’s largest industrial heat pump

The German government has awarded a €310 million ($336 million) funding package to chemical manufacturer BASF for the construction of an industrial heat pump with a capacity of up to 500,000 metric tons of steam per year. It will use waste heat from steam crackers for CO2-free stream production. 

Nepal’s 800 MW grid-tied solar tender oversubscribed

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has received proposals from 134 companies for a total of 3.6 GW. It says that 259 projects from 127 developers passed the technical bid evaluation and will be considered when financial proposals are opened on Oct. 22.

Solar corporate funding down 23% so far this year

Total corporate funding in the solar industry reached $22.3 billion in the first nine months of 2024, down 23% year on year. Mercom Capital Group says global uncertainties are affecting investor confidence, but an increase in debt financing and resilience in newly announced large-scale project funding are bright spots for the sector.
