Indian scientists build near-infrared transparent inverted perovskite solar cell with 16.5% efficiency

The team produced a 16.53% inverted 1.08 cm2 perovskite solar cell using atomic layer deposition to apply a buffering layer of tin oxide to prevent electrode sputtering damage.

Sekisui, TNO exploring perovskite solar PV collaboration

Japan’s Sekisui Solar Film and the Netherlands’ TNO have signed a letter of intent to explore collaborations related to flexible perovskite solar PV. Talks will be initiated on a potential perovskite module factory in Brabant and the exchange of relevant information.

Perovskite solar cell achieves higher stability with new tin oxide layer

Using atomic layer deposition, a research team from the City University of Hong Kong has created an an oxygen-deficient tin oxide layer to replace the more common fullerene electron transport layer in perovskite solar cells. The result is a 25%-efficient device that is able to retain around 95% of its efficiency after 2,000 h.

Kalpana Systems launches roll-to-roll spatial atomic layer deposition tools

Kalpana Systems, a Dutch equipment manufacturer, is launching spatial atomic layer deposition (sALD) tools to be used in roll-to-roll manufacturing processes in the solar PV, organic light emitting diode, battery and packaging industries. The initial application is expected to be barrier layer deposition.

Atomic layer deposition tool for perovskite cell pilot line

Dutch equipment supplier SALD has announced delivery of a spatial atomic layer deposition system to an unnamed customer in the United States. The tool will be used in the pilot-scale production of perovskite solar cells. While it has not disclosed the exact function of the tool within the pilot project, it said it will be used to deposit thin coatings to protect cells from damage in later manufacturing stages, and ensure their longer-term stability.

Vanadium oxide-based silicon solar cell with 18.6% efficiency via atomic layer deposition

Researchers in Spain have developed an n-type crystalline silicon solar cell based on vanadium oxide films deposited by atomic layer deposition. The cell showed an open-circuit voltage of 631 mV, a short-circuit current of 38.36 mA cm-², and a fill factor of 75.8%.

Amtech nears final solar exit with SoLayTec sale

The Arizona-based equipment maker is sticking to its guns by withdrawing from the PV market after sales wobbled in China last year. With most of the big players having rediscovered their thirst for expansion, however, it appears a curious strategy.

UNSW, Leadmicro to partner on ALD for PERC production

UNSW Sydney has partnered with Leadmicro to develop the next generation of PERC solar cells and fast-track their time to market. The Chinese PV production machinery manufacturer is donating $1 million Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) reactor to UNSW to test and adapt a new process for PERC cell solar cell production.
