Hungary-based Heatventors is offering its new thermal energy storage system with capacities of 10 kWh, 30 kWh, and 60 kWh. The thermal battery is combinable with solar PV and has an expected service life of over 10,000 cycles.
The South Korean heating specialist said its new heat pump can achieve a seasonal coefficient of performance of up to 4.87 and flow temperatures of up to 75 C.
India’s installed battery storage capacity reached 219.1 MWh at the end of March 2024. A recent Mercom report predicts that the nation will add 1.6 GWh of standalone battery storage and 9.7 GW of renewable projects with storage by 2027.
A Japanese-Finnish research group has assessed the levelized cost of energy of solar power plants supplying electricity to data centers in cold climates and has found that PV electricity could be considerably cheaper than grid electricity, even if used with battery storage.
Researchers in the U.S. have created a new sodium battery architecture with stable cycling for several hundred cycles, which could serve as a future direction to enable low-cost, high-energy-density and fast-charging batteries.
Once completed, the four-hour battery energy storage project will operate under a 15-year contract with Elia, Belgium’s electricity grid operator, and be located next to Engie’s gas power plant in Vilvoorde.
According to the latest forecast from Wood Mackenzie, the global energy storage market (excluding pumped hydro) is on track to reach 159 GW/358 GWh by the of 2024 and grow by more than 600% by 2033, with nearly 1 TW of new capacity expected to come online.
Wood Mackenzie says that solar will account for 59% of new renewables between 2024 and 2033. China is expected to drive the growth, accounting for half of new solar deployment over the projected time period.
AgRE.tech, which is developing a robotic operating system for existing photovoltaic infrastructure, has raised $2 million from EDF and Zemach Regional Industries. The company says it will soon set up commercial fields.
The battery development should monetise excess grid capacity and complement the 320 MW compressed air energy storage project developed by Groningen-based long duration energy storage specialist Corre Energy.
