German 2010 PV installation figures increased

Share

Newly installed PV capacity in Germany almost doubled in 2010. However, the solar subsidy cuts were not implemented without consequences. Around 7,400 MW were installed, which is much less than originally expected by the grid operators.

Broken down by month, the world PV leader installed:

  • 222.247 MW in January
  • 163.280 MW in February
  • 331.378 MW in March
  • 454.045 MW in April
  • 573.176 MW in May
  • 2,108.905 MW in June
  • 663.064 MW in July
  • 363.394 MW in August
  • 654.386 MW in September (originally stated as 452.877)
  • 340.541 MW in October
  • 359.940 MW in November
  • 1,173.943 MW in December

The data from October to December still needs to be reviewed. Thereby, this shows that the two solar tariff cuts introduced last year were not implemented without consequences.

Last autumn, the grid operators predicted that 9,500 MW would be installed in 2010 and 2011 respectively. On this basis, they made the calculations for the renewable energy allocation (EEG-Umlage). This is the contribution paid by the consumers on their electricity bill for the expansion of renewable energies.

Meanwhile, even the federal government has already acknowledged that the contributions may be too high at 3.53 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, and will probably fall back below three cents per kilowatt hour in the coming year.
