Thailand: 8.7 MW PV park completed

DuPont Apollo has completed its 8.7 megawatt (MW) ground-mounted L Solar 1 photovoltaic park in Thailand, in collaboration with Thai conglomerate Loxley Plc.

Located in the country’s Prachin Buri Province, 180 kilometers from the capital Bangkok, the park covers around 344,000 square meters and comprises DuPont Apollo’s thin film photovoltaic modules.

With construction completed, the company says the plant will be connected to the gird in the fourth quarter of the year. It is expected to generate 12 million kilowatt hours of energy annually.

The energy will reportedly be supplied top the grid via Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand (PEA), under Thailand’s current Very Small Power Producer (VSPP) added tariff scheme.

"With our thin film PV technology uniquely suited for sunbelt countries, we hope the success of this project will act as a catalyst for further PV developments in Thailand," commented David Chu, chief executive officer of DuPont Apollo.

According to a statement released, to help advocate the use of photovoltaics, the L Solar 1 project includes an education center located at the solar farm. It is open to external visitors interested in learning about the technology.
