The San Jose, California-based solar project developer and producer of high-efficiency monocrystalline solar panels is constructing the two co-located generating facilities that make up Solar Star in Kern and Los Angeles Counties for owner BHE Solar, a subsidiary of Warren Buffets Berkshire Hathaway Energy. Southern California Edison is buying the power under a long-term purchase agreement at undisclosed pricing.
Construction of the 579-megawatt (MW) ac Solar Star Projects for Berkshire Hathaway Energy and Southern California Edison is on plan with more than 412-MW (AC) now connected to the grid, and with substantial completion expected by the end of the second quarter, said Werner.
The system, which SunPower says is about six months ahead of schedule, will produce enough power for approximately 255,000 homes.
Currently, rival First Solar holds the title for the largest solar power plant in the world, with two 550 MW projects also in California.
