PV materials manufacturer Giga Solar Materials Corp. plans to invest JPY 660 million ($5.49 million) in the construction of a 2 MW PV installation in Japans western prefecture of Okayama, according to Taiwans DigiTimes newspaper.
The company expects to complete the plant in the first quarter of next year. Giga Solar has invested in PV plant development in Japan and Taiwan, including the construction of a 17 MW installation in in Fukushima Prefecture and a 2.5 MW plant in Ciba Prefecture in eastern Japan. The Fukushima plant, which began operation in May, is expected to generate 20 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year at a feed-in tariff (FiT) rate of JPY 43.2/kWh ($0.36/kWh), DigiTimes reported.
Giga Solar also acquired a 4 MW PV plant in July that currently under construction in Japans southwestern prefecture of Fukuoka. The installation, which will have a FiT rate of JPY 40/kWh ($0.33/kWh), is scheduled for completion by year's end.
