Valleland Solar has submitted a 60 MW photovoltaic project to the Chilean environmental authorities (Servicio de Evaluación Ambiental, SEA).

The project, two 30 MW solar parks, is expected to require an investment of US$151 million. In the plants a total of 139,860 solar modules and single axis trackers are planned to be installed.

The project is planned in Atacama, in the north of Chile, a sun-drenched region where mining companies proliferate and are driving energy demand.

On Thursday, SEA announced another 196 MW solar project in the Atacama region. This project was submitted for environmental approval by Avenir Solar Chile. The investment required for it is estimated at $450 million.

Over 6 MW of solar projects have been submitted to SEA to date. In its June report, the Renewable Energy Center of Chile says that over 4 GW have already obtained approval and 2.2 GW are pending of approval. Solar plants connected to the grid add up to only 3.5 MW but 69 MW of solar projects are under construction in the South American country.
