Flanders adds over 646 MW of solar in 2024

Belgium’s Flanders region installed at least 646 MW of solar in 2024, bringing total installed capacity to nearly 7 GW. The region marked its 1 millionth solar panel installation this month, driven by industrial rooftop projects.

Argentina installs 307 MW of solar in 2024

Argentina installed 307 MW of solar in 2024, bringing its total PV capacity to 1.67 GW by year-end, according to energy market operator Cammesa.

South Australia leads international rooftop solar cost rankings

A new study of residential solar installation costs shows that South Australia has the lowest prices in Australia, while even the most expensive Australian states cost about one-third of those in the United States and Canada.

High pressure systems bring solar gains despite stormy January in Europe

In a new weekly update for pv magazine, Solcast, a DNV company, reports that January was an eventful month for European weather, with a series of named storms impacting Western Europe and Scandinavia. Solar irradiance was above average in the British Isles and around the Black Sea, where periods of high pressure allowed for clearer skies.

Research shows floating PV can reduce lake water temperature by 1.2 C

A before-after-control-impact study conducted at six French lakes for three years has revealed that PV coverage decreases water temperature by 1.2 C on average. The reduction in water temperature also occurred in areas of the lakes that were not covered with modules.

Carrier launches new air-source heat pumps for commercial applications

Carrier, a US-based heating solutions provider, said its new AquaSnap 61AQ heat pump system can deliver high-temperature heating up to 75 C at outdoor temperatures as low as -7 C. The new product is available with capacities ranging from 40 kW to 140 kW.

Israel introduces tool to calculate rooftop solar potential

Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in collaboration with the Israel Mapping Center, has launched a tool that calculates the potential and expected income from rooftop solar installations on residential, industrial, and public buildings.

Chile deploys 2.14 GW of solar in 2024

Chile installed 2.14 GW of new solar in 2024, bringing its total installed PV capacity to 10.5 GW by year-end, according to the National Energy Commission (CNE).

Fuzzy reconfiguration scheme to reduce power losses in PV systems under fault conditions

Scientists in Pakistan have developed a fuzzy reconfiguration method that can reportedly mitigate power losses due to shading and hotspot faults by up to 23.5% compared to conventional techniques. The proposed scheme is said to be suitable for both square and rectangular PV arrays of different sizes.

Jordan opens tender for solar at water facilities

Jordan’s Water Authority has kicked off a tender for solar plants at water facilities to improve energy efficiency in the sector. Contractors must request pre-qualification questionnaires by email by Feb. 20, 2025.
