European PV module purchasing platform reports 20% increase in panel prices

Solar module prices in Europe rose this week for the first time in months, says Bart Wansink, CEO of Search4Solar, a European sales platform for PV products. He tells pv magazine that prices could climb quickly in the coming weeks.

European consortium seeking to make floating PV more cost-competitive

An international team of floating PV specialists and researchers is working on affordability, sustainability, and reliability, as well as applying the latest technologies, to accelerate adoption.

CEA-INES, 3Sun achieve 30.8% efficiency for tandem perovskite-silicon solar cell

The 9 cm² cell consists of a top cell based on a perovskite absorber and a bottom cell with a heterojunction (HJT) structure. The results improve on the 29.8% efficiency CEA and 3Sun achieved for the same kind of cell in December.

Testing shows BIPV using patterned glass performs better than expected

Scientists have compared conventional PV modules to self-made BIPV panels with thicker, patterned glass. They tested them both under standard conditions and outdoors under Korean summer conditions. Yield was found to be only 0.5% lower in the textured BIPV module.

Perovskite solar cell based on 3D/2D heterostructures achieves 26.05% efficiency

Developed by an international team including Saudi Arabia’s KAUST and the Chinese Academy of Science, the solar cell is claimed to be one of the most efficient perovskite PV devices based on 3D/2D heterostructures built to date.

Swiss startup launches 400 W transparent BIPV panels

Climacy, a building integrated PV manufacturer, has launched a new semi-transparent 400 W glass-glass panel that is suitable for use in roofs or facades in residential, industrial and commercial buildings. When used as a roof or wall componentt, the 20% transparent panels reportedly allow more natural light into interior spaces than conventional PV designs.

Sunswap expands production of PV-driven transport refrigeration units

Sunswap brings manufacturing in-house at headquarters in Leatherhead, near London, following a successful fundraising round. Offering solar and battery-powered refrigeration for transport, the UK business has international ambitions.

EDF shuts down Photowatt solar manufacturing unit

EDF Renewables has decided to shut down all operations of French PV module manufacturer Photowatt, following the failure of its planned acquisition by Carbon.

Australian researchers set world record with kesterite solar cell

University of New South Wales (UNSW) researchers have set a new energy efficiency record for kesterite solar cells, a technology with potential to enhance silicon-based PV systems.

Field manual for off-grid residential PV in remote communities

A research team has constructed a technical field audit among users of solar systems in remote communities in Ghana and has identified some recurring technical issues. Based on the collected data, the scientists have also developed a practical field manual.
