Increasing voltage in cadmium telluride solar cells through nickel oxide back buffer layer

Cadmium telluride solar cells are commonly based on non-ohmic back contacts that affect the device open-circuit voltage. Researchers in the United Kingdom sought to address this issue by adding a nickel oxide back buffer layer, which formed an ohmic back contact and increased open-circuit voltage levels.

Recovering silver from PV waste via green graphene

Researchers at James Cook University have developed a process to synthesize graphene from tangerine peel oil, which they then used to recover silver from waste PV material. To demonstrate the quality of the recovered silver and the synthesized graphene, they made a dopamine sensor that reportedly outperformed reference devices.

Q-Sun Solar, Bakarat Investment to build 10 GW solar panel factory in Oman

The China-based solar manufacturer and Oman’s renewable investment entity Bakarat Investment have agreed to jointly establish a 10 GW solar module factory in the country with an investment of around $200 million.

Chinese PV Industry Brief: CEEC launches 15 GW inverter procurement plan

Inverter manufacturers such as Sungrow, Huawei, Sineng, Growatt, Kstar, and TBEA are all participating in CEEC’s procurement scheme, which aims to source around 15 GW of products.

Aerosols from wildfires slash North American solar production

In a new weekly update for pv magazine, Solcast, a DNV company, reports that, throughout July, smoke from wildfires in Canada and the US West Coast significantly impacted irradiance across North America, while Hurricane Beryl and upper atmospheric conditions delivered unstable cloud cover across the central and eastern United States.

New deterioration diagnosis tech for individual modules in PV panel strings

Conceived by scientists in Japan, the system consists of a a xenon flash lighting system and a detector capacitor. It can reportedly examine solar modules and find the degraded ones without disconnecting the string’s electrical wiring.
