Chinese PV manufacturer JinkoSolar has agreed to deliver 579 MW of modules for several winning projects in the solar auction that took place on Friday in Brazil.
"We were very successful in the last auction in Brazil," Alberto Cuter, JinkoSolar's general manager for Latin America and Italy, told pv magazine. JinkoSolar will become one of the largest module suppliers in Brazil and one of the main module suppliers for winning projects in last week's auction, in which a total of 1.043 GW of solar projects were awarded.
The company already has a significant share in the Brazilian market, which remains relatively small with less than 30 MW of solar are online. "We have delivered in Brazil about 15 MW to date, about a 50% share," said Cuter.
JinkoSolar will deliver the modules from its factory in China. "For this auction we will import," Cuter stressed. Other module manufacturers are planning to produce modules in Brazil in view of the local content requirement to access financing from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) for winning projects in the auction.
Last weeks auction was the countrys second national solar tender. Brazil held its first solar auction last year. The two auctions awarded a combined total of about 2 GW of solar projects.

The average price in last weeks auction was about BRL 301.79 ($80) per megawatt hour, up from an average price of BRL 262 ($70) per megawatt hour last year.
Brazils third national solar auction, scheduled for November, will tender some 21 GW of pre-registered solar projects. The maximum price for the auction has not yet been set. "I think that it will be as successful as this one," Cuter said.
JinkoSolar also sees a great potential in the distributed generation segment. Brazil is set to revamp its net metering regulations to improve the program. Among the changes that could be introduced are less bureaucracy and increasing the maximum capacity of the projects that can access the scheme from the current 1 MW to 5 MW.
Cuter, who spoke to pv magazine at Intersolar South America in Sao Paulo last week, said JinkoSolar had a lot of meetings for distributed generation during the event. We already closed some contracts — very promising contracts."
