Ecuador pre-selects 345.3 MW of solar in renewables auction

The lowest bid for PV in Ecuador’s latest procurement exercise was $0.0498/kWh. The pre-selected developers may secure 25-year power purchase agreements.

Guyana launches tender for 33 MW/34 MWh of solar-plus-storage

The Guyanese authorities are seeking proposals to deploy eight PV plants linked to storage.

Kicking off the heterojunction era

In their never-ending search for solar technologies that can produce more energy at lower costs, solar manufacturers are moving forward with a wealth of different approaches in mass production. Among the more established of these is n-type heterojunction, which is the route chosen by China’s Risen Energy. In this pv magazine Webinar, we take a closer look at a heterojunction technology and some of the innovations behind Risen’s Hyper-ion module series, and how these create a long-term advantage, lowering costs by generating more energy over a project’s lifetime.

Solar-powered water desalination tech for off-grid applications

Berlin-based Boreal Light has developed water desalination tech powered by PV for off-grid applications. The solution uses 460 W solar panels from Chinese module manufacturer DAH Solar and produces clean water from direct seawater at a cost of €0.50 ($0.54)/m3.
