Solar Frontier completes acquisition of Gestamp Solar's 280 MW US pipeline

Japanese CIS giant Solar Frontier has completed the acquisition of Gestamp Solar's 280 MW U.S. pipeline.

The acquired assets includes 10 projects in various stages of development and located primarily in California. Solar Frontier has begun construction on a 15 MW project located in the state's Kern County and as second, 20 MW project is slated to begin this quarter.

Solar Frontier is in talks with a group of long-term investors regarding the sale of designated solar projects.

Charles Pimentel, newly appointed CEO of the group’s newly established Solar Frontier Americas Development division, said, “Solar Frontier is making substantial investment within the Americas and with this acquisition, we expect to build and deliver some of the highest performing solar energy projects in the industry thanks to Solar Frontier’s state-of-the-art CIS technology.”

Pimentel added that investors and developers were keenly focused on long-term energy yield and were starting to recognize the value of partnering with Solar Frontier to maximize the value of their PV plants.

Solar Frontier said the expansion of its U.S. operations was part of its global expansion plans, which include strengthening the company’s position as a comprehensive solar energy solutions provider in international markets.

The new Solar Frontier Americas Development team also includes managing director Cary Vandenberg. Pimentel will also continue in his role as chief operating officer of Solar Frontier Americas.
