Polyelectrolyte-based inverted perovskite solar cell with 20.29% efficiency

Taiwanese researchers have added bathocuproine (BCP) molecules to three different kinds of solvents used in perovskite cells and have ascertained how this combination increases the carrier mobility and passivates the electron-poor defects. Furthermore, they utilized a polyelectrolyte (P3CT-Na) thin film as hole transporting material instead of commonly-used thin films based on PEDOT:PSS.

Queensland to integrate large-scale community batteries into substations

The state government of Queensland, Australia, will install five community batteries at regional substations in a bid to time-shift its abundant solar resources.

India’s cumulative PV capacity hits 39.1 GW

India had 39.1 GW of grid-connected solar and 216 MW of off-grid projects in operation by the end of February. The state of Karnataka leads with 7.4 GW of installed solar capacity, followed by Rajasthan with 5.5 GW and Tamil Nadu with 4.4 GW.

Steps for mid-sized US companies considering solar

Smaller companies can benefit from solar and are often expected to do so by large companies that need to trim the environmental impact of their supply chains. Here are four steps to take when considering solar.

1

Axpo expands large scale storage business

The Swiss energy group takes on the operation of a 1.25 MW battery storage system owned by Rhiinenergie AG. The storage facility will provide grid balancing services for the country’s grid operator.

Guide to help installers detect hidden costs in high-power modules

Spanish PV product distributor Techno Sun has published a report analyzing the consequences of high-power modules for installers and distributors. The guide provides a method to calculate the additional costs of large solar panels from different points of view.

New photonic material for self-aligning solar cells

US scientists have made light-tracking, three-junction tandem PV cells with an active area of 650 × 650 square micrometers. They are based on indium gallium phosphide, gallium arsenide, and indium gallium arsenide antimony nitride and use photonic crystal film for maximum efficiency.

3

SunPower loan program for US residential solar, storage customers

SunPower claims that the electricity savings could equal the monthly cost of its 25-year loans for residential solar systems.

2

Spanish solar renaissance lifts world to record year for large scale projects

A global ranking of large scale solar project capacities indicates prominent roles for a resurgent Spain, behind the usual top three of China, the U.S. and India, with Australia and the Netherlands also on the rise. There were disappointing returns, though, for the U.K., Italy and Canada.

How to protect rooftop PV systems from fire risk

Dutch research institute TNO has released a series of guidelines to reduce fire hazards in rooftop PV installations. The study follows a series of fire accidents that occurred between 2018 and 2020 in the Netherlands, for which the main causes were identified.
