Curaçao and Dutch Caribbean launch tenders for two more solar projects
Curaçao’s power utility company Aqualectra has issued a tender for the construction of a solar project with a capacity of 10 MW to 15 MW.
The company said that the project will consist of rooftop sytems installed on commercial buildings spread across the island. The installations will deliver power to Aqualectra’s grid under a long-term PPA. Interested developers must send their request for prequalification by December 16.
In a separate development, Saba Electric Company, the energy provider of the island of Saba, which is part of the Dutch Caribbean, has launched a tender for the construction of a 1 MW solar park associated with a storage system of 1.5 MWh.
According to the company, it is the second project of its kind for the island of Saba, one of three that are being developed in the archipelago. Companies interested in carrying out the project may request documentation of the tender before December 10.
The first solar park of the Dutch Caribbean was inaugurated in November. The 4.1 MW project, located on the island of St. Eustatius, was fully funded by the Dutch government and combined with a 5.9 MWh storage system.
Curaçao and the Dutch Caribbean were both part of the Netherlands Antilles until 2006. From 2007, however, Curaçao and Sint Maarten were granted a special autonomy, while Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba became special municipalities of the Netherlands.
