TSEC switches on new 500 MW solar cell production line

The new production line will enable the Taiwan-based manufacturer to produce larger and more powerful modules.

Nanocomposite films for 13.57%-efficient organic solar cell

Scientists in Malaysia have used, for the first time, nanocomposite films based on zinc oxide and polyvinyl alcohol in organic solar cells. These films were able to improve the efficiencies of the PV devices by up to 3.5%.

A tribute to our colleague Joël

Dear readers, It is with great sadness that we have learned of the sudden death of our colleague Joël Spaes, on Sunday. An accomplished professional in the energy industry, he joined pv magazine France in 2019 to report on news and other developments in the solar photovoltaic sector. His kindness, his great intelligence, his keen […]

Switching from subsidization to taxation may improve uptake of heat pumps coupled to PV

According to a Swedish-Austrian group of scientists, the combined use of heat pumps and rooftop PV generation may be boosted in Europe by replacing current subsidies with a carbon tax policy. Their analysis showed that the profitability of this combination is strictly dependent on gas prices, and that a slight increase in gas prices would be crucial to sustain strong development.

Hydrogen-fired gas turbines vs. lithium-ion storage

According to a new study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, hydrogen-fired gas plants will compete with lithium-ion storage for seasonal storage and their competitiveness will strictly depend on the heat rate of the gas power plants they may replace.

Turkey launches another 1 GW PV tender

The Turkish government has set a ceiling price of TRY0.40/kWh ($0.046) for the fourth procurement exercise of the Yeka program.

Huasun achieves 25.26% efficiency for heterojunction solar cell

The result was confirmed by Germany’s Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin.

Inverted perovskite solar cell with 22.1% efficiency via star-shaped polymer

The solar cell was fabricated with a special polymer that is able to passivate defects at the grain boundaries and interfacial surfaces, inhibit nonradiative recombination and charge-transport loss, and improve stabilities under moisture. The device exhibited a remarkable fill factor, of 0.862.
