India could install 8.5 GW of solar in fiscal 2022

India’s solar capacity additions will surge in the 2021-22 fiscal year, led by a strong project pipeline. Tariffs will go up in line with rising module prices, but will remain competitive at less than INR 3/kWh ($0.040/kWh), according to a new report by ICRA.

‘Historic’ 50 GW renewable hydrogen hub proposed for Australia

InterContinental Energy and CWP Global have proposed the use of 50 GW of solar and wind to annually produce either 3.5 million tons of green hydrogen or 20 million tons of green ammonia. The proposal follows the Australian federal environment minister’s recent rejection of environmental approvals for the 26 GW Asia Renewable Energy Hub.

JinkoSolar claims 23.53% efficiency for n-type, TOPCon, monocrystalline panel

The PV module relies on Jinko’s TOPCon mono cell technology, for which a record efficiency of 25.25% was announced in late May. TÜV Rheinland has confirmed the result.

Perovskites get a $14m boost

The United States Department of Energy is providing $14 million for a research center for perovskite solar technology. Led by Sandia National Laboratories, the center’s work will focus on establishing standard testing protocols as well as ensuring the long-term reliability of perovskite cells and the bankability of companies setting up to produce them.

Italian energy company Eni is partnering with local companies in Algeria and Egypt to explore the possibility of producing green and blue hydrogen in the North African countries. The United Arab Emirates is also collaborating with Japanese partners to develop the country’s hydrogen sector, while in New York, hydrogen has arrived in Long Island.

Longi reports US decision dismissing Hanwha patent claims

The Chinese solar giant today announced a final written decision published by the American authorities which reportedly invalidates Hanwha Q Cells patents. That development appears to have come 12 days after the Korean manufacturer carried out a seizure of a Longi panel shipment in Rotterdam on the basis of the potential for the infringement of Hanwha patents which apply in Europe.
