Euro’s electricity prices recovered by falling wind generation

Electricity market prices recovered in the second week of November due to falling wind production. MIBEL recorded the lowest weekly average price for the third consecutive week.

Residential photovoltaic panels with high partial shading tolerance, high voltage

Scientists from South Korea have designed new photovoltaic modules with both rectangular and triangular shapes and solar cells connected in parallel, which they said have higher partial-shading tolerance compared with cells connected in strings. The panels are reportedly less sensitive to partial-shading geometries than shingled modules.

Vertical rooftop PV specialist switches on two more systems on green roofs in Norway

Norwegian vertical solar system specialist, Over Easy Solar, recently supplied a 102 kW bifacial commercial rooftop system, just a few months after supplying a 45 kWp system for a school rooftop. Both systems were installed on so-called green rooftops by the Norwegian project company, Solenergi Fusen.

India’s solar installations surpass 72 GW

India’s cumulative solar installations hit 72.02 GW as of Oct. 31, 2023. Grid-connected solar rooftops account for 15.38% of all installed capacity, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Message framing techniques to boost solar sales

A Dutch-German research team has tested how a series of framed messages may be used to boost PV system sales, addressing both self-interest and environmental concerns, and has found that all the proposed messages are effective at promoting the purchase of solar panel installations.

Photovoltaics for biomethanation

Researchers in Denmark have studied the technical and economic feasibility of biomethanation through large-scale PV power generation. They said that the intermittent PV-driven biomethanation process matches the efficiency of continuous processes after several days.

Weekend Read: Consolidating growth in Africa

Across Africa, rooftop solar is stepping in to fill the void as fears of non-payment and inflation-reduced donor funding dampen enthusiasm for big solar. Commercial and industrial (C&I) arrays are leading the charge, driving consolidation in markets overstocked with startup and mid-size installers.

Researchers shed light on mysterious, higher energy yields in vertical PV systems

Scientists in the Netherlands have sought to understand the reason for unexpected gains in vertical PV systems and found that these installations have a much higher heat transfer coefficient than their horizontally deployed counterparts.

California rooftop solar policy serves as warning to nation

Four expert panelists shared their views at the recent pv magazine Roundtables US 2023 live event on the California rooftop solar market. They said that energy storage will need to play an increasingly important role.
