Sunlabob to supply off-grid PV to Kiribati outer islands

The Vientiane based company will supply systems for 2,188 homes, 120 teachers' homes, 20 solar training workshops, 100 small businesses, 30 community centers, seven schools, a village mini grid and one grid connected system as part of the EU-funded scheme.

The European Commission has committed more than US$36 million to renewable energy development in the region up to 2013 and more than $530 million in loan pledges was secured for Pacific nations at the Pacific Energy Summit in Auckland, Australia last month.

Kiribati comprises a string of atolls and access to electricity outside the the main island of Tarawa is around 30%.

Sunlabob last year supplied 1,500 off grid home systems in the Marshall Islands and 3,500 solar lanterns and 70 charging stations across the Federated States of Micronesia.
