Hamburger Energiewerke is planning to deploy a 4 MW air-source heat pump that will connect to the local heating network. The system can reportedly generate up to 3.2 kWh of heat from 1 kWh of electricity.
Conceived for industrial applications, the novel heat pumps can reportedly deliver hot water at 65 C from -10 C up to 35 C of external air, and hot water at 55 C down to -20 C of external air. Their coefficient of performance reaches up to 3.47.
Germany’s Ait Group has introduced residential ground-source heat pumps using less than 150 grams of propane, based on results from the Fraunhofer ISE LC150 research project. The new systems deliver up to 6 kW of heating with a seasonal coefficient of performance of 5.14.
The US-based company said its new EL18KSLV Side Discharge Heat Pump uses R-454B as the refrigerant and has a size ranging from 2 tons to 5 tons.
The new Oterra 115V heat pumps use difluoromethane (R32) as the refrigerant and have a heating capacity of 9,000 BTU/h to 12,000 BTU/h.

The UK-based heating solutions provider has developed a pre-engineered and ready-to-install unit compatible with most of the residential heat pumps available in the market. It can be placed underneath a standard hot water cylinder and transfer heat from the pump via a plate exchanger to the central heating indirectly.

The changes have been introduced as the UK government pursues 600,000 installations per year by 2028 target.
