Spain allocates 31 MW of solar in latest renewables auction

The auction was set to contract 140 MW of distributed solar power, as part of a 520 MW tender open to thermal solar power projects for the first time. In total, 177 MW have been awarded, none of which went to thermal, 31 MW to photovoltaic, and the remainder to biomass.

Large scale PV projects proliferate in Portugal

Analysis from Aurora Energy Research shows around 4.3 GW of solar projects secured grid-connection permits to date in Portugal. Data also shows a record 1.2 GW of solar projects requested generation licenses in the first seven months of the year, smashing previous records.

Poland to allocate 9 GW of solar in 2022-27 auctions

The Polish government plans to allocate around 13 GW of new renewables capacity under a six-year scheme. It said 4.5 GW of solar will be assigned to projects above 1 MW in size, while another 4.5 GW of capacity will be assigned to smaller installations.

Italy allocates 293.7 MW of solar in latest renewables auction

Italy’s energy agency has awarded 293.7 MW of solar capacity at four locations and 119.5 MW of wind in its latest auction. All of the developers offered a maximum discount ranging from 2% to 2.5% off the auction ceiling price of €0.065 ($0.063)/kWh.

Cape Town tenders for solar in bid to escape dependence on troubled utility

The city authority wants a developer to construct a 7 MW solar project for it as part of a push to widen its sources of electricity, and says clean energy will be cheaper than – largely coal-fired – grid power from Eskom.
