Hybrid solar vanadium battery system withstands Australia’s harsh weather

Energy solutions company Australian Flow Batteries has rolled out its containerised solar vanadium battery system in Western Australia, which can be stowed in less than an hour to protect modules during the region’s annual cyclone season.

US-based company introduces new solar carports

Brooklyn Solar Company announced a new post-truss, cantilever and wood-post solar carports.

Photovoltaics for sea cucumber aquaculture

Scientists in China have conducted a year-long study on six “aquavoltaics” farms hosting sea cucumber aquacultures under the solar panels. Due to the lower water temperature, the hibernation period of the animal was reduced, as was mortality, compared to the previous year.

New database for PV module fault detection

Scientists in Colombia have created a 10-year open dataset for PV panel fault detection. Data was acquired using an electronic load system, oscilloscope, and thermographic camera in outdoor environmental conditions.

Microquanta developing perovskite solar modules for BIPV applications

The Chinese perovskite solar cell and module maker said its custom-designed double-glass perovskite modules measure 1,200 mm x 1,000 mm and achieve a light transmittance of around 40%.

PV-driven solar water pumping system based on supercapacitor buffer

Scientists have proposed a novel design for standalone solar PV water pumping systems, using an intermediate supercapacitor buffer to temporarily store solar energy and release it in high-power pulses. Daily water productivity has grown by 64%, based on a simulation. An experimental setup was also tested.

U.S. startup unveils ‘world’s largest’ transparent organic PV window

Next Energy said its 101.6 cm x 152.4 cm laminated transparent power-generating windows were produced with its pilot production line.

Sodium-ion vs. lithium-iron-phosphate batteries

Researchers in Germany have compared the electrical behaviour of sodium-ion batteries with that of lithium-iron-phosphate batteries under varying temperatures and state-of-charges. Their work shows how state-of-charge during cycling significantly affects the efficiency of sodium-ion devices.

Organic-inorganic perovskite cell relying on furan-based polymer achieves 21.39% efficiency

Researchers in Singapore used a biomass-derived polymer to increase the efficiency of hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite solar cell. The cell was also found to obtain a 90% efficiency retention after 1,100 hours, which compares to 52% for benchmark cells designed without the proposed polymer.

Fluence launches highly-modular 7.5 MWh AC-based BESS platform

The system features an innovative split design breaking away from the industry standard 20-foot container. It is configurable for storage durations of two to eight hours.
